Satire in 1984 and V for Vendetta - 1722 Words
December 2, 2012 ââ¬Å"Satire in 1984 and V for Vendettaâ⬠Most nightmares are horrendous. In these delusions, the subconsciousââ¬â¢ worst-case scenarios are discharged. Imagine a nightmare come to life. What type of government is there? There is most likely a tyrannical leader forcing upon society oppressive measures, manipulating them through authority and control. This is an example of a dystopia. Analyzing this disturbing situation helps criticize and ridicule something of reality. This is called satire, and in this case, satire of a dystopian society. George Orwellââ¬â¢s 1984 is about a protagonist, Winston Smith, living under a totalitarian government in Oceania. He befriends and forms an intrepid relationship with an audacious dark haired girl,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦If this is the normative role of the government, should they not put their egos aside and become more submissive to the public? Rather than the other way around? This is indubitably ridiculed in both 1984 and V for Vendetta. Control of the public, is intrinsic to the prospect of the government. One way is to control the subjectââ¬â¢s emotions. That is why the ongoing theme of control through emotion is so important. In turn, power is allotted to the government, without opposition. In 1984, emphasis is put on the publicââ¬â¢s distorted idea of true and false. Through different emotions planted in citizens, facts are skewed. Distorted emotions are exaggerated in 1984 through Winstonââ¬â¢s experience amid the ââ¬Å"Two Minutes Hate.â⬠He along with everyone involved is subjected to government bias potent propaganda. After watching the ââ¬ËTwo Minutes Hate,ââ¬â¢ he says that, ââ¬Å"At those moments his secret loathing of Big Brother changed into adoration, and Big Brother seemed to tower up, an invincible, fearless protectorâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (1.1.15) This is a prime example of common sense and knowledge being twisted into thoughts of pure emotion. When thoughts are manipulat ed by emotion, more instinctive natures arise. Through government propaganda, two groups are set apart; they, as rational and them (the public), being emotional. This secures the governmentââ¬â¢s power, giving them complete control over the public. My Experience As A Teacher Essay - 1272 Words
Fieldwork Summary Paper Miele 1 My Fieldwork Experience Within Classrooms As I graduated into Concordia College I was already positive that education was going to be the major I was going to study and pursue a career in. With the motivation of my aunt, whom is a teacher, I always looked up to her. The only aspect I wasnââ¬â¢t sure of was what grade I would want to teach. I have always loved kids, which is way I have always been leaning towards teaching within early-childhood grades. Within this course I was given the opportunity to sit and observe classrooms of grades of my choice. I decided I would sit within a kindergarten class, a third grade class, and a fifth grade class. With this experience I was able to get an idea of what grade I would want to continue a career in as I followed my dream as a teacher. The first class I attended and observed was a kindergarten class taught by Mrs. Brenda Buccheri Miele, in which was my aunt. Not only was I excited to observe what it was like to teach a kindergarten class, but I also was also excited to watch my aunt in action for the first time. As soon as I entered the kindergarten classroom at Concord Road Elementary School, I couldnââ¬â¢t help but smile because of all the little projects the students had put together and hung around the room. Being that it was my first time observing a classroom I was a little nervous to meet the kids and spend four hours with them. Vegetarianism Is It the Best Choice Essay Example For Students
Vegetarianism: Is It the Best Choice? Essay The National Institutes of Health have proven that over five hundred thousand Americans die each year from coronary heart disease. They also have found that over seven million Americans are suffering from this disease at this present time (Facts about Coronary Disease). This same article explains that coronary disease is the most prominent form of heart disease. There are many risk factors that have been linked to coronary heart disease, such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes and obesity just to name a few. These are all risk factors that can be controlled by people on their own, without the use of drugs or any medical help. There are a few exceptions, however, gender, heredity and age can also lead to this disease and these are factors that cannot be controlled by a person. The diet one chooses can serve as a preventative measure. Coronary disease is caused by thickening in the hearts coronary arteries, which prevents nutrients and oxygen from flowing to the heart. The thickening of the arteries comes from the excessive amounts of saturated fat consumed by a person from years of careless dieting (Internet). A vegetarian diet eliminates one of the major elements in a persons diet that contains fat. Meat is high in saturated fat. Whether it is, pork, beef, chicken, or turkey, meat contains fat from the animal that does not need to be consumed. When people cook these meats, they add different types of oils and seasonings that increase the fat intake and abuse of these foods could lead to obesity. This is another major cause of coronary heart disease. If ones diet is based on vegetables and other non-animal foods, the chance of acquiring heart disease dramatically drops because they can eliminate two of the major causes, high cholesterol and obesity. The reason for this is obvious, non-animal based foods do not contain high amounts of saturated fat that clog the arteries, therefore, helping one maintain a very healthy and strong heart. So far, how ones diet affects their health by increasing the chances of heart disease has been explained. Robert Schneider, a practicing medical doctor, revealed in his book, Cancer Prevention Made Easy, that ones diet also increases the chance of cancer. Because diet is the focus, colon, stomach and breast cancer are the most common forms that are influenced by diet. Schneider in his research has found that most Americans in the past consumed 40 percent of their total calories in the form of fat, and too high a proportion of that in the form of saturated, or animal, fat(66). It has already been said that there is strong evidence of animal fat being related to heart disease, but there is also evidence that says animal fat has also been linked to different forms of cancer. Schneider also states that animal fat produces saturated fat which is the main culprit in the beginning of cancer, yet fruits and vegetables contain mono and polyunsaturated fats which are less of a threat of causing cancer. North American women are six times more likely to contract breast cancer than some Asian and African peoples because of the excessive amounts of fat in their diets. It has been proven that Japanese women and vegetarian women have much less breast cancer than North American women and meat consuming women no doubt because of the less amounts of animal fat they consume. In countries that are known for meat consumption, especially beef, such as Argentina, Uruguay, and New Zealand, the colon cancer rates are higher than those countries whose meat consumption isnt so high (Schneider 125). The most effective way for a person to decrease the chances of cancer, obviously, would be to eliminate meat consumption from their diet. A vegetarian diet would increase a persons chances of avoiding cancer by eliminating its major culprit. Many people argue that the major source of protein needed comes from meat. People who argue this point are right; meat does contribute largely to a persons daily protein. .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f , .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .postImageUrl , .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f , .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:hover , .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:visited , .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:active { border:0!important; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:active , .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ucc1bef14648a18d1ea31e6435221a55f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Tennesse Williamsââ¬â¢ The Glass Managerie Essay These people fail to realize where the animals get their source of protein. The Strength Of Beatty Essays - Fahrenheit 451, Free Essays
The Strength Of Beatty Essays - Fahrenheit 451, Free Essays The Strength of Beatty The book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, demonstrates how certain people's opinions can influence an issue in this case, the burning of books. Captain Beatty had the greatest influence on public opinion regarding this issue. Beatty illustrates the ability to confuse and to make a person insane, he can control a community of people, and he can frighten people. Beatty is, clearly, the strongest character in the book Fahrenheit 451. One of his influential talents is Beatty's ability to confuse in his arguments. He used this ability to weaken Montag. He once said, "So! A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon. Breach mean's mind. Who knows who might be the target of the well-read man? Me? I won't stomach them for a minute." (Pg. 62) These short phrases are bewildering, because they have a very unclear meaning. He also said, "And you shrieked, 'Knowledge is power!' and 'A dwarf on a giant's shoulders sees the farthest of the two!' and I summed my side up with rare serenity in, 'The folly of a mistaking a metaphor for a proof, a torrent of verbiage for a spring of capital truths, and oneself as an oracle, is inborn is us, Mr. Valery once said.'" (Pg. 116) This confused Montag to the point that he almost disclosed his passion for reading books. Beatty has mastered the skill of holding people under his power. Beatty, himself, said, "Knowledge is more than equivalent to force." (Pg. 116) He additionally declared, "I don't think you realize how important we are to our world as it stands now." (Pg. 66) He takes his position to rule the people. By depriving people of books he striped the residents of knowledge and therefore withdrew their power. One of the ways that Beatty controls is with fright. He is very proficient at using fear for control. During his speech he said, "What if a fireman accidentally, really not intending anything, takes a book home with him?" When hearing this, Montag stirred with fright. "We're book burners, too. We burnt books, afraid they'd be found."(Pg. 164) The firemen will not only find the books, but also send the offenders to jail. This gave Beatty significant power. Beatty is the strongest character in Fahrenheit 451. He has the ability to confuse, to gain control, and to frighten. Despite being the bad guy, Beatty is a very influential and powerful character. His opinions significantly shape the characters and actions of the book.

Significant volume of literature can be found related to US health care system. Steven Jonas, Karen Goldsteen and Raymond Goldsteen in their ââ¬Å"An introduction to US Health Care Systemâ⬠have opined that the health care system in US is very similar to the systems of the other nations where ââ¬Ëallopathic medical modelââ¬â¢ is mainly followed (Jonas, Goldsteen & Goldsteen, 2007). However, it has several features that are unique in nature when compared to the health care systems of other countries. While providing a brief overview of the Unites States health care system, Jonas and Goldsteens have said that an important aspect of the US health care system is that it is significantly fragmented and decentralized (Jonas, Goldsteen & Goldsteen, 2007). Its main function and role are significantly focused on the production of outcomes. It r emarkably emphasizes on the profits and power of the service providers. In US, health care is provided but it does not come at a low cost. High end education and researches that are related to health care are provided and funded. Surely there are loci of control and power. In the US as such there is no central Ministry of Health. The system allows
